Norway's topography is well suited for hydropower and many recent plans exist for further utilisation of hydropower resources, even though many important rivercourses have been permanently protected.

Nevertheless Norway has still not developed the great offshore resources of wind, wave and tidal power along the entire Norwegian western and northern coast.
